Sic Itur Ad Astra

Well, well, well…did everyone miss me? Ha! Apparently not, due to my lack of comments! >:(

So, after the whole camera debacle I decided to feed one of my compulsions and buy Sin City on DVD. Since I’d already seen Sin City in the theaters there wasn’t much new there…especially since the DVD people were nice enough to put like, zero extras on the damn thing. Nice, really. Way to showcase the capabilities of a digital format. All I can say is anyone who clams Jessica Alba is not an attractive woman is either: A-Testosterone deficient, B-Blind, or C-Conditioned with aversion therapy to fear women in chaps and a bikini top. Overall a crazy move shearly for the visual methods and beautiful color overprinting.

As another treat to myself I decided to FINALLY go see The Island—since I’ve wanted to see it since the 45 minute preview at Cannes. Same issue with Scarlet Johansson as Jessica Alba except no chaps—sorry guys…and girls of a certain persuasion. As blockbuster as this film was…there were some really emotional moments for me. I mean…not to give anything away…but there was a point that nearly put me in tears for the injustice of the clones. Now…the fact the general concept for the movie tends to mimic another (abet, extremely unenjoyable and under-budgeted) flick—Parts: The Clonus Horror—as well as some of the visual concepts and ideology of THX 1138 sort of bugs me. It’s like, once again, Hollywood’s just recycling concepts over and over. Either way, I’d recommend The Island to pretty much anyone for a two hour bout of summer entertainment.

Had an audition today…a co-host for a TV show. It went really, really well, actually. About as good as I could have hoped for. The funny thing about the audition was…they really seemed to be casting to type. Every chick in there could have been my sister. Seriously, every time that happens it freaks me out…in a Twilight Zone kind of way…not in a “Empire Records, Gina and Corey fight” kind of way. I mean…okay, dark hair, non-traditionally American looks, short, dancer build, and other physical stuff is weird enough…but half of these girls were wearing pretty much the same thing I was: high cuffed jeans or capris, black vintage style tee, heals, and some kind of emo/trendy jewelry. Make-up all very similar. Again…freaks me out.

In that same vein, I did manage to land a commercial series (or commercial campaign if you prefer) for the U of T Film Festival. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to be able to do it…I have some pretty serious scheduling conflicts. It sucks in two ways: 1-I would really like to get seen by a lot of the festival people…and 2-I would really like to get the damn thing for my reel.

Oh well, c’est la vie, as we Frenchies like to say…

Then again I do have 3 more auditions this coming week to soothe myself with. =D

Well chicas and chicos, I have to finish doing laundry/cooking tomorrows lunch/getting gas, so good night…and drop me a line or call…

I miss you all…

Movie/TV Quote: From The Island, “Just ‘cause you wanna eat the burger, doesn't mean you wanna meet the cow.”

PS: From a comment a long time ago: Snark refers to a pejorative style of speech or writing. It could loosely be described as irritable or "snidely derisive"; hence, 'snarkish', 'snarky', 'to snark at somebody'. It could less politely be described as 'bitchy'.
